    I am looking at a 10x8 metal shed that in total cost less than it would cost me to sheet a DYI build. The metal alone for the siding and roof at 3.60 a linear foor for 3 foot wide panels would cost 475 bucks vs the shed I could buy complete for 400 bucks. Only cost me making the floor. No framing costs or anything else. There is a place for DIY but with the cost of materials in 2024 from say home depot forget about it. Heck for that price I could buy 2, join them together and have a 10x16 shed for under 900 bucks. lol Edit: Not to mention throw a 3 foot pony wall under them for hardly nothing and have an 8 foot entrance and ceiling.

    THAT’S beautiful!! Your mitered-corners are spot-on!! Your project proves it’s the details that make the difference! You asked about rodent/snake deterrent ideas. This is slightly labor intensive, but it’s something that has worked for me EVERY time (it kept coyotes and bobcats out of my chicken coop!): Use a long spade and make a “trench” right next to the bottom edge of the deck. Make it at least 8” to 10” deep and go all the way around your deck. Using a roll of hardware clothe -a very puncture resistant metal “mesh” - cut 16” to 18” strips. Save yourself massive amounts of time and pain by investing in a shear attachment to cut this hardware clothe. DeWalt makes one for about $60!! Tap these strips of hardware cloth down into the trench the ground. Since this will be an after-build install, you’ll have to pop off that bottom “skirt” trim so you can staple the hardware clothe to your bottom deck skirt. The mesh is very hard. Rodents cannot chew through it and it is painful on the paws and claws of larger animals.

    You went to the ER for a splinter? That’s on you bud. What do you think ER stands for? Emergency Room. The fact that you considered a splinter an “emergency” is your own fault. Next time go to an urgent care and you would probably have spent under $200.

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie 3 дня назад

      I totally agree with you. And I went to the urgent care and they turned me away and said they only see patients with colds, fevers, flu’s… basically a sickness. They said anything other than that need to go to an ER. But instead of going to the ER, I called my family doctor to squeeze me in for an appointment and after I saw the doctor he told me the exact same thing that the urgent care said. So… just like you said, that’s how I thought and I explained that to my doctor and he said “no” that’s not how the healthcare system works. He was nice and respectful but he said always go to the ER for everything other than being sick. With that being said, I went home and tried to have my wife take it out and she couldn’t get it and it was causing tremendous pain so I went to the ER. I learned a bunch from this experience and since then I have had several discussions with my doctor about this out of fun and learning. Basically the healthcare system is not what we all think. The joke is on us! But I find it funny that you would think that I would get a splinter and just rush off to the ER lol 😂

  • @graphguy

    My install quote (split with neighbor) was $9,000, so $18,000 I DIY'd it myself and just charged the neighbor for supplies (there 1/2). Excluding my labor cost total bill was $4,000 - 1/2 = $2,000 my material cost. And? I know for a fact my quality is far superior to the contractors.

    Why did you have to add wallboard when there was existing drywall there already? Does the Evo stone require a depth that was thicker than your current drywall? Also - what kind of wallboard do you put up? It looks great and I’m interested in using this kind of stone facade in a project of mine.

    Any material be it rock, soil, mulch is going to be at least twice as much at Lowe's, Home Depot, or Ace as it is from your local yard. However, if you don't have a truck or trailer to haul away yourself, the delivery fee will eat you alive on these small projects. At my local yard, they charge a flat $50 for the first ten miles, then a per-mile rate. So obviously for a dozen bags worth of material you'll win at Lowe's versus Yard + Delivery

    Ummm... ya left out the cost for all tools & equipment. Your table saw... that's $5k easy (SawStop cabinet, right?). Big Grizzle bandsaw, $2k? Tools & equipment make up a big portion of what trades are charging you for. Labour is labour. If you're playing a person to do a job, that person deserves a living wage at min. Craftsmanship is extra.

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie 5 дней назад

      I agree with you and I’m not saying that the contractors are charging too much but I am saying if you want to save a crap ton of money then you need to DIY it. The tools needed are so minimal. One doesn’t need my tools to accomplish this project. The better the tools the easier it will be but totally not necessary. You could use a jig saw or circular saw and a Brad nailer. But if you want to give a fortune away for this type of work to a contractor then it’s alright by me but I think saving the money and doing it yourself is the way to go.
